Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine is a non-surgical, minimally invasive, drug-free treatment that encourages expedited tissue healing and cellular regeneration. If you struggle with injury-related pain, neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction or chronic, degenerative conditions, regenerative medicine is a highly effective, low-risk, healing alternative to surgical and pharmaceutical-based treatments. At Fox Integrated Healthcare, we offer regenerative medicine as a component of our integrated health services because it offers significant benefits as both a standalone treatment and as a complement to other therapies.
Conditions That Can Benefit from Regenerative Medicine
A wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions can benefit from regenerative PRP injections, including:
- Knee pain
- Back and neck pain
- Shoulder pain and rotator cuff injuries
- Bursitis
- Tendonitis
- Soft tissue injuries
- Joint pain and arthritis
- Chronic, degenerative musculoskeletal conditions
Health Benefits of Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine offers a variety of benefits for patients who are concerned about the health risks and downtime associated with surgical procedures and cortisone-based injections. Because the treatment harnesses the incredible power of your body’s natural healing mechanisms, it’s benefits include:
Expedited Healing Time
Platelet-rich plasma contains anywhere from five to 10 times the number of healing blood platelets that are present in normal, whole blood. Because your blood platelets contain high concentrations of growth factors, they are responsible for healing your body’s tissues. When we inject a high concentration of platelets into areas of tissue injury or degeneration, those platelets immediately begin the healing process. PRP can significantly shorten healing time, depending on the individual and the severity of the condition.
Tissue Regeneration
Because PRP contains a high concentration of healing growth factors, it stimulates new tissue growth in areas of damage and degeneration. As a result, damaged and dysfunctional tissue experience restoration and renewed functioning.
Pain Relief and Mobility Improvement
Because PRP works to heal injured, damaged, degenerated and inflamed tissues, it helps to relieve chronic tissue inflammation that can cause significant discomfort. As your inflammation subsides, your tissues progressively heal, your pain levels decrease and your mobility gradually improves.
What to Expect With Regenerative Medicine
At Fox Integrated Healthcare, your healing journey starts with a consultation with one of our highly trained medical professionals. Together, you’ll discuss your unique physical concerns and goals of health care.
If you are a candidate for regenerative treatments, you’ll then undergo a comprehensive physical exam, during which your chiropractor will perform advanced imaging and diagnostic techniques to gain a full understanding of your condition. After gathering all relevant information, your chiropractor will discuss the findings of your exam and recommend a custom, individualized treatment plan.
During your treatment, we’ll collect a small sample of your blood, which we’ll use to create a substance called platelet-rich plasma, more commonly referred to as PRP. We create this substance by placing the blood samples in a high-powered centrifuge, which spins at high velocity to separate the various blood components. After centrifugation, we separate the PRP from the remainder of the sample and reserve it for your injections.
Using ultrasound-guided imaging, we then locate the precise area where we’ll administer the PRP we previously collected. We’ll numb your injection site if necessary using a local anesthetic; however, you may feel a slight pressure as we inject the PRP into the specified area.
Regenerative Medicine: Frequently Asked Questions
Treatment frequency varies based on a variety of factors, including the severity of your condition, your body’s response to treatment and even your age. That said, many patients experience varying degrees of relief after only a single treatment. Further PRP injections may be administered over a six-month period at two- to three-week intervals, depending on your medical professional’s recommendation.
Regenerative medicine, when administered by a trained practitioner, is widely considered safe. Because we derive PRP from your own blood, the treatment relies on your body’s endogenous healing mechanism to promote rapid healing, tissue regeneration, pain relief and mobility improvements. That said, with any medical procedure or treatment, there is always a risk of side effects, so be certain to discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor prior to engaging in the procedure.
